Volunteers registration

Secure your place as a volunteer at the 7th edition of the VELUX EHF FINAL4 in Cologne!

For the 2017 edition of the VELUX EHF FINAL4, the European Handball Federation (EHF) is looking for volunteers who can support the event and who themselves can gain hands-on experience at a major sporting event.

You can look forward to being present at the pinnacle event of club handball in Europe in the LANXESS arena in Cologne, and help us to pull this gigantic event together over the weekend of the 3rd and 4th of June 2017.

The tasks will be divided into five different areas and volunteers can apply immediately.
Despite the fact that your help will not be met with any form of remuneration, the event has plenty to offer for each volunteer. Experience first-hand all that is involved in the final dress rehearsal of the opening show; feel the rollercoaster of emotions each fan goes through, and witness the winners lift the trophy. You will be an important part for the whole event and will also get a look behind the scenes of the biggest event in European club handball.

As part of the team you will help to make this all-important handball spectacle a once-in-a-lifetime and unforgettable experience for all involved. Food and drinks will be of course provided, and you will also receive a volunteers’ uniform for the duration of the tournament.
Since the event takes place in Germany, all applicants must speak German to a good level.

In order to process your application we would ask you kindly to please fill in the registration form below in full. Unfortunately, an application via post or email is not possible. For this registration we will require a current profile photograph of you. Incomplete applications will not be taken into consideration.

Online application

Please note: All applicants must be 18 years or older (cut-off date May 29, 2017). For those applicants under the age of 18 a written declaration of consent from a parent or a legal guardian (exclusively via post) is required.

Duties

Visitor service

At visitor service, you are the first point of contact for all spectators in the hall and thus the first "face" of the event. You will provide the international visitors with information about transport in Cologne and its routes, the various minor events that take place within the framework of the VELUX EHF FINAL4, about the many popular sites in the city as well as all relevant information about the event. You will help with the framework programme of the fan area before the event, put the final touches on the preparation within the arena and ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Media

A variety of reporting is essential for every event, so in order for the media to enjoy optimal working conditions, many organisational tasks must be done in advance as well as during the event. You will help to inform the media about all important information and news, hand out accreditations and assign journalists and photographers to their places. Post-match press conference must be prepared and many important tasks that contribute to the external coverage of the event are handled by the media volunteers.

Logistics

One of the most important areas of duty is the logistics. The preparation of an event such as the VELUX EHF FINAL4 2017 requires a high logistic effort, as the set-up must be built within a very short time in the arena and the volunteers will help turn an empty hall into a "handball temple". You will also be active in and around the matches with logistics volunteers being responsible for various items people reaching the desired location, whether it’s from storage to the hotels or from the arena to the training halls. In logistics, the volunteers receive some of the greatest insights into the organisation of such a large event.

Staff shuttle

During the VELUX EHF FINAL4 2017 many organisers and their employees are on the go. Volunteers from the staff shuttle bear a heavy responsibility - the organisers and officials must be safely and reliably brought from the hotel to the arena and to the respective side events. Not only is the transport of key employees the responsibility of the staff shuttle service, but also smaller errand trips and transport of material from the arena to the team or VIP hotel will be included. You will get to know all of the places that belong to such a big event. This major event takes place not only within the LANXESS arena, but the VELUX EHF FINAL4 is now an integral part of the entire city of Cologne.

Hotel

As a hotel volunteer you are an important member of the EHF team. Everything at the event is managed from the hotel; this is essentially the control room. Your duties will encompass everything from simple errands up to the support of important guests, players and officials. It is a role that requires a lot of flexibility, resistance to stress and a professional appearance.

Entertainment

Alongside the main events of matches between the four teams, a large and comprehensive entertainment show plays an important part in the VELUX EHF FINAL4 2017. Laser and light effects, flying platforms, pyro shows and choreography - the shows at the VELUX EHF FINAL4 have set standards year after year. As part of the entertainment crew you will be actively involved in the opening show, the players’ entry, the award ceremony and other show elements. However, you should be resilient and resistant to stress as a volunteer in the entertainment group, because you have to be ready to deal with shifts in the late evening.
